Madrid: Fagan Abdurahmanov, Deputy Director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency, attended the WindEurope Madrid 2026 event, which brought together high-profile leaders and experts in the wind energy sector. The event's opening ceremony featured prominent figures such as Dan J¸rgensen, EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, and Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain, along with European energy ministers and key companies in the wind energy industry.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions at the event focused on global development trends and strategic directions in the wind energy sector. Abdurahmanov participated in several thematic sessions that explored the integration of artificial intelligence in wind operations, the blending of renewable energy with data centers and electrification, and the relationship between wind energy and the defense sector. Strategies for minimizing investment risks were also a focal point. Additionally, he took part in a ministerial session on offshore wind energy and engaged in discussions about expanding the industrial supply chain.
A significant aspect of Abdurahmanov's visit was a meeting with the WindEurope organization, where they discussed the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency and WindEurope, aiming to define future avenues for bilateral cooperation.
The visit also included focused meetings with international partners to progress specific projects. In discussions with Spain's Eolos, the focus was on an upcoming measurement campaign in the Caspian Sea, using floating lidar devices to evaluate wind potential. Talks with World Bank representatives concentrated on a technical assistance project aimed at local production of wind turbine components in Azerbaijan and the transfer of skills from the offshore oil and gas sector to the offshore wind industry. Furthermore, a meeting with Spain's Elecnor reviewed the status of a 70 MW wind energy project planned for Azerbaijan, specifically regarding contract finalizations and the start of the measurement process.
