Baku Hosts Roundtable on Newborn Hearing Assessment and Its Clinical Significance

Baku: A roundtable titled 'Assessment of hearing in newborns and its clinical significance' took place on February 3, co-organized by the Scientific-Practical and Educational Center of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee, the Central Customs Hospital, and the British-Azerbaijani Association of Doctors and Dentists.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event gathered otorhinolaryngologists, pediatricians, and residents from diverse medical institutions. Opening remarks were made by Ismayil Afandiyev, Deputy Head of the Medical Service Department of the State Customs Committee, along with Bakhtiyar Musayev, Chief Physician of the Central Customs Hospital, and Fidan Israfil-Bayli, Chair of the British-Azerbaijani Association of Doctors and Dentists.

Ismayil Afandiyev underlined the importance of interdisciplinary discussions in the context of international cooperation for healthcare professionals' development. He also spoke about ongoing medical education activities and future objectives of the Medical Service Department.

Bakhtiyar Musayev emphasized the topic's relevance and the importance of integrating international practices. He mentioned that a memorandum of understanding between the parties serves as a strong basis for future collaboration.

Fidan Israfil-Bayli, joining online via Zoom, highlighted the significance of the memorandum between the British-Azerbaijani Association and the Central Customs Hospital. She pointed out that the roundtable is the first event under this memorandum, encouraging active participation in discussions.

The event continued with Nahida Mahmudova and Elvin Azizov moderating. Natavan Ramazanzade from Lister Hospital delivered a presentation on newborn hearing assessment, underscoring its role in early pathology detection and healthy child development. The importance of systematic screening programs for preventing social and developmental issues was also discussed.
