Baku: An academic article co-authored by Islam Islamov, a professor at Baku Engineering University's Department of Automation, Telecommunications and Energy, has been published in "Results in Engineering," a prestigious Q1 category journal in the engineering field.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the scientific journal, published by Elsevier, is indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases with a 2025 Impact Factor of 9.4. The research was conducted jointly with scholars from the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy of Bulgaria and presents a closed-loop engineering methodology for the rapid development of unmanned maritime systems. This methodology introduces continuous feedback between digital models and physical prototypes, differing from existing production-oriented approaches.
The proposed methodology integrates multiple engineering stages-3D scanning, reverse engineering, digital optimization, additive manufacturing, subsystem integration, and experimental verification-into a single workflow. The effectiveness of this approach was validated through two examples: a modular unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform and a coastal monitoring buoy. Reverse engineering was applied to the UAV, while forward engineering was utilized for the buoy. Results demonstrated a 30-50% reduction in prototype development volume and a 35-40% reduction in component redesign, with a maximum deviation in geometric accuracy of only 0.5-1.5 mm for the UAV components. Functional tests confirmed the operational capability and structural strength of the subsystems.
