Bilateral Ties Strengthen as Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Presidents Announce Collaborative Projects

Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered significant press statements, highlighting the burgeoning relationship between the two nations. This event took place during President Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Azerbaijan, emphasizing a shared vision for economic cooperation and cultural exchange.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev opened the press conference by underscoring the strategic and allied nature of Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations, which have been formalized through the Treaty on Allied Relations signed in Tashkent last year. Aliyev congratulated Uzbekistan on their national football team’s qualification for the World Cup and praised the country’s sporting achievements as a reflection of its leadership and youth development policies.

The Azerbaijani President highlighted the rapid development and reforms in Uzbekistan, expressing joy at its growing international stature and economic potential. He emphasized joint efforts to boost mutual investments, with more than ten projects currently in the pipeline, supported by a $500 million investment fund. These projects span energy, agriculture, and construction, reflecting the countries’ commitment to deepening economic ties.

Aliyev also acknowledged Uzbekistan’s assistance in reviving Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, particularly through educational and industrial projects, which have provided jobs and infrastructure. Furthermore, he announced plans to open a new Uzbek embassy building in Baku, alongside a project for an ‘Uzbekistan’ Park, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.

In his statement, President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s hospitality and highlighted the enduring brotherhood between the countries. He lauded Azerbaijan’s economic growth and praised President Aliyev’s leadership. Mirziyoyev also noted the successful implementation of agreements signed during Aliyev’s previous visit to Uzbekistan, emphasizing the importance of cultural and educational exchanges.

Mirziyoyev expressed satisfaction with the tangible results of these collaborations, including joint energy and transport projects and cultural achievements, such as an Azerbaijani ensemble winning a competition in Uzbekistan. He proposed a co-hosted football championship, showcasing the nations’ shared passion for sports.

The presidents reaffirmed their commitment to addressing international and regional issues collectively and supporting each other’s endeavors. Both leaders expressed optimism about future prospects, underscoring the strength and potential of Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations.
