Cabinet of Ministers Plans for 2029 Azerbaijan Census

Baku: An expanded meeting chaired by Prime Minister Ali Asadov at the Cabinet of Ministers focused on the preparations for Azerbaijan's population census scheduled for 2029. The meeting addressed tasks from President Ilham Aliyev's Decree, "On Conducting the Population Census in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2029," signed on July 7, 2026.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Prime Minister Ali Asadov stressed the significance of the population census as a comprehensive source of demographic data, crucial for evaluating demographic trends and planning socio-economic development. He highlighted the historical importance of the upcoming census, marking the first nationwide census since Azerbaijan's full sovereignty restoration.

The Prime Minister announced the Cabinet of Ministers' plan to approve a comprehensive Action Plan to implement the Presidential Decree. A Central Commission for Assistance with the Population Census, led by a Deputy Prime Minister, will be established to coordinate involved entities.

For the first time, the census will incorporate digital technologies, administrative, and geospatial data, aligning with UN recommendations and national development priorities. Remarks from Azer Mursagulov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee, and Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport, provided updates on the census preparations.
