Canadian Official Warns Urban Challenges Outpacing Government Response

Baku: Urban challenges are growing faster than policy and implementation mechanisms, Janet Goulding, Assistant Deputy Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities of Canada, said during the ministers' meeting on the New Urban Agenda organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, under the National Housing Strategy launched in 2017, the Canadian government has allocated more than 115 billion Canadian dollars in investments over a period exceeding 10 years. This substantial investment highlights the government's commitment to addressing the increasing urban challenges that Canada faces.

Janet Goulding noted that the newly established federal institution 'Build Canada Homes' is expanding the use of public lands for housing construction, facilitating financing, and accelerating construction processes. This initiative is part of Canada's broader strategy to tackle housing shortages and improve urban living conditions across the nation.

She stated that Canada's main priorities over the next decade will be accelerating housing construction, strengthening inclusivity, and building climate-resilient cities. These priorities aim to ensure that Canada can meet the demands of its growing urban populations while also addressing issues related to sustainability and social equity.
