Cargo and Passenger Transportation Surges in Azerbaijan

Baku: In the period from January to October this year, Azerbaijan saw a significant increase in its transport sector, with economic entities transporting a total of 198.3 million tons of cargo, as reported by the State Statistical Committee to APA-Economics. The data indicates a 2.3% rise compared to the same period the previous year.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the distribution of cargo transportation modes was varied, with 3.9% of the cargo handled by sea, 7% by railway, a minimal 0.2% by air, 61.5% via road transport, and 27.4% through pipelines. Notably, the volume of cargo transported by vehicles in the non-state sector grew by 3.7%, with this sector accounting for 79.9% of the total cargo volume.

In the same timeframe, transport services in Azerbaijan catered to 1,785 million passengers, marking a 5.3% increase from the previous year. A breakdown of passenger transportation shows that 89% of passengers traveled by road, 10.3% used the metro system, while the remainder utilized other transportation modes.
