Charles Michel Highlights Importance of Global Baku Forum for International Cooperation

Baku: More and more countries are becoming involved in conflicts, a trend observed over several years, said former President of the European Council Charles Michel during a press conference at the 13th Global Baku Forum.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Michel pointed out the decreasing effectiveness of the international system built on the United Nations framework. He attributed this to weaknesses in decision implementation and challenges in executing necessary reforms. This, he noted, is a reality visible to all today.

Michel emphasized that forums like the Global Baku Forum provide significant opportunities to enhance mutual understanding in these times. The event brings together 350 individuals from various fields, who engage in dialogues to develop mutual understanding, which serves as the foundation for making informed decisions and constructing a more just and predictable world.

He further highlighted the need for the international community to reflect on three critical questions to fulfill its role effectively. First, what are the collective goals, particularly in addressing challenges such as climate change, economic development, and global security? Second, how should decisions be made collectively, especially concerning international governance and the multilateral system, including the United Nations? Lastly, how can the financing of international efforts be structured to ensure greater justice globally?

Michel expressed hope that the discussions at the forum would lead to a better understanding of these challenges, fostering hope and optimism for the future.
