Colchester: Chelsea legend John Terry is set to become the new owner of League Two side Colchester United.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the former England international will spearhead a consortium to buy Colchester in a deal worth £14 million. Terry will join the ranks of celebrities like Ryan Reynolds, Snoop Dogg, and Will Ferrell, who have ventured into football club ownership within the English Football League (EFL).

The 45-year-old is anticipated to play a significant role in the footballing operations of the club. Terry has expressed his enthusiasm for becoming Colchester's new owner. The team currently occupies the 13th position in League Two, having secured 16 victories and 14 losses in their 42 matches this season.

Colchester United, based in Essex, has been part of the fourth-tier league since their relegation from League One in 2016. The club enjoyed two seasons in the Championship from 2006 to 2008.

Terry is recognized as one of the finest defenders of his era, having spent 19 years at Chelsea. During his tenure, he made 717 appearances across all competitions, scoring 67 goals. Terry was instrumental in helping Chelsea secure five Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2012. Additionally, he earned 78 caps for the England national team, contributing six goals.

Currently, Terry serves as Chelsea's academy coach and has recently acquired a FIFA Diploma in Club Management. He intends to continue his role at the West London club while embarking on this new journey with Colchester United.
