Lithuanian Prime Minister Highlights Azerbaijan’s Role in Regional Connectivity and EU Cooperation

Vilnius: Lithuanian Prime Minister, Ingrida Ruginiene, emphasized Azerbaijan's pivotal role in regional connectivity and as a key partner for the European Union in advancing economic cooperation across various sectors.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, PM Ruginiene stated that Lithuania supports initiatives aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and economic ties in the South Caucasus, with a specific focus on collaboration with Azerbaijan.

Lithuania encourages the European Union to expand its economic cooperation with Azerbaijan, particularly in transport, logistics, and energy sectors. The EU's involvement through financial support, technical expertise, and regulatory alignment could enhance the sustainability and reliability of regional projects. PM Ruginiene noted the potential for increased EU engagement in promoting regional connectivity, contributing to economic resilience and diversification.

In light of the recent peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, brokered with the support of the United States and former President Donald J. Trump, Lithuania commends the progress towards normalization. PM Ruginiene stressed the importance of sustaining peace and called for all partners, including the European Union, to contribute to long-term stability. Lithuania remains committed to supporting this process through dialogue, confidence-building, and practical cooperation within the EU framework.

On the current level of cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan, PM Ruginiene highlighted the importance of further strengthening this partnership, particularly in energy diversification. Azerbaijan already plays a crucial role in the EU's strategy, and Lithuania foresees opportunities for expanding collaboration into green energy, technological cooperation, and infrastructure development. The goal is to establish a diversified, resilient, and mutually beneficial partnership.

Addressing the situation in the Middle East, PM Ruginiene expressed concerns over the impact of the ongoing conflict involving Iran on international stability. Lithuania closely monitors these developments, acknowledging their effects on the global economy, including energy markets and supply chains. The prime minister expressed a desire for rapid de-escalation and the attainment of sustainable peace through political and diplomatic means, underscoring the significance of these outcomes for the European Union and Lithuania.
