Baku: Republican Congressman Abe Hamadeh has underscored Azerbaijan's geopolitical significance following his recent visit to the country, where he met with President Ilham Aliyev. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hamadeh shared his insights in an article published in Newsmax, asserting that Azerbaijan holds a crucial position on the global stage.
The congressman emphasized that while Azerbaijan may not often feature prominently in Washington's headlines, it remains one of the most strategically important countries worldwide. He pointed out that Azerbaijan's location, bridging Europe and Asia and sharing borders with Russia and Iran, has solidified its status as a vital energy producer, transportation hub, and security ally.
Hamadeh highlighted Azerbaijan's growing role in bolstering Europe's energy independence, widening trade corridors, and enhancing stability in a region marked by volatility. He also discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, acknowledging the significant strides made under former President Donald Trump's leadership towards a lasting peace.
"This historic breakthrough creates new opportunities for economic growth, regional stability, and long-term prosperity that can only flourish in an environment of peace," Hamadeh remarked. He further noted that the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan establishes a political framework that requires ongoing international engagement and support to succeed.
Concluding his insights, Hamadeh stressed the importance of continued U.S. involvement in the region, stating, "The United States cannot afford to disengage at such a pivotal moment."
