BAKU: The majority of preparations for the upcoming COP29 conference have been finalized, according to Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and the President of COP29. Speaking at the inauguration of the Uniform Distribution and Accreditation Center, Babayev confirmed that significant progress has been made in readying the venue for the pivotal climate change discussions.
According to Trend News Agency, Babayev emphasized that while substantial groundwork has been accomplished, efforts are ongoing. “Full preparation of the venue for the main event has already been organized. However, the work is still in progress,” he stated. The minister also highlighted the focus on coordinating with the UN secretariat and completing site preparations. A presentation of the new uniforms for COP29 staff, designed to ensure easy identification, was part of the day’s events.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is schedul
ed for November in Azerbaijan. This decision was made during the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11 of the previous year. The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, established at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, aims to mitigate human impact on the climate system. The COP serves as the convention’s foremost legislative entity, with 198 countries as signatories. The inaugural COP took place in Berlin in March 1995, and its secretariat is stationed in Bonn.
