Dubai: A Strategic Meeting of the Climate Change Vulnerable Countries Network was organized by Azerbaijan’s Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, with the United Arab Emirates hosting the event.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, high-level representatives from climate-vulnerable countries, international organizations, and financial entities attended the meeting. The main goal of the event was to mobilize climate finance for implementing the Baku Call on Climate Action for Peace, Aid, and Recovery, which was adopted at COP29 last year under Azerbaijan’s presidency. Additionally, the meeting aimed to develop practical solutions to strengthen resilience in vulnerable regions.

During the opening session of the strategic discussions, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev, underscored the significance of the Baku Call, adopted under Azerbaijan’s COP29 presidency last year. He noted the establishment of the Baku Center for Climate and Peace Action as a practical implementation mechanism, emphasizing that these were crucial steps in supporting countries suffering from climate crises and conflicts. Rafiyev stated that Azerbaijan’s goal is to promote international cooperation and carry out pilot projects in several vulnerable countries under its COP29 presidency to increase assistance to those nations.

The meeting, which will continue today, is expected to adopt a statement for the Vulnerable Countries Network and a roadmap for its activities.
