Tbilisi: The 'Alliance' Youth Center in Tbilisi recently hosted an event to commemorate Azerbaijan National Music Day and the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli. This celebration was organized as part of the initiatives by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event began with a performance of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, a renowned piece by the celebrated composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the head of the center, Leyla Amrahova, addressed attendees, highlighting Hajibeyli's significant contributions to Azerbaijan's national music. She spoke of his extensive creative legacy, scholarly work, and pivotal role in the development of Azerbaijani music. Amrahova emphasized Hajibeyli's recognition as a publicist of the 20th century, the founder of Azerbaijani opera, a writer, and a lexicographer.
Samir Abdurahimov, an advisor at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia, also delivered a speech at the event, congratulating fellow Azerbaijanis on National Music Day. He mentioned that on February 3, 2025, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, signed a decree to honor the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Abdurahimov stressed the significance of celebrating the anniversary at a high level as a means to appreciate Hajibeyli's legacy and to ensure it is passed on to future generations. He further emphasized that Azerbaijani national music serves as a unifying and uplifting force for the people.
Following the speeches, the event continued with a vibrant musical program, celebrating the enduring influence of Uzeyir Hajibeyli on Azerbaijani music and culture.
