Baku: The project to expand the 130 km Ganja-Gazakh-Georgia border section of the Baku-Alat-Gazakh-state border with the Republic of Georgia highway, part of the Great Silk Road initiative, is nearing its final stage, as reported by APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the total width of the roadbed is designed to be 27.5 meters, featuring four traffic lanes, each measuring 3.75 meters in width. The construction work is divided into three lots, with work on Lots 1 and 2, as well as a portion of Lot 3, already completed. On August 7, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan inaugurated the 102-kilometer section from Ganja to Gazakhbeyli.

The project is part of the ‘State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of the Regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023.’ As a result, 67 underpasses, 19 junctions, and 17 bridges have been constructed and are operational along this rebuilt 1b technical category road segment.

Currently, construction efforts focus on the last 28-kilometer stretch from Gazakhbeyli to the Georgia border, covering kilometer 102.2 to kilometer 130.150 of the project. This section is also in its final stages of completion.
