ISTANBUL: Fenerbahçe secured a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League, while Besiktas claimed a 1-0 victory against Lyon. Fenerbahçe’s coach, Jose Mourinho, was sent off after protesting a penalty decision.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Fenerbahçe faced Manchester United at home in the 3rd week of the UEFA Europa League. The match in Kadiköy ended with a 1-1 draw. Christian Eriksen opened the scoring for Manchester United in the 15th minute. Fenerbahçe’s Youssef En-Nesyri equalized in the 49th minute, heading in a cross from Alan Saint-Maximin.
In a parallel development, Besiktas earned its first victory in the tournament by defeating Lyon 1-0 away. Lyon initially thought they had taken the lead with a goal from Alexander Lacazette, but it was ruled out for offside following a VAR review. A penalty awarded to Lyon was also overturned by VAR, determining the foul occurred outside the area, resulting in a free kick instead.
