Baku: FIFA has determined the prize fund for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, APA reports. Following a meeting of the FIFA Council held in Doha, it was announced that the tournament’s prize fund will amount to 727 million dollars. This is 50% more than the prize fund of the previous World Cup held in Qatar.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, of the 727 million dollars, 655 million dollars will be distributed among the countries participating in the championship. The tournament winner will receive 50 million dollars, the team finishing in second place 33 million dollars, third place 29 million dollars, fourth place 27 million dollars, teams finishing fifth to eighth 19 million dollars, teams finishing ninth to sixteenth 15 million dollars, teams finishing seventeenth to thirty-second 11 million dollars, and teams finishing thirty-third to forty-eighth 9 million dollars.
In addition, teams will receive 1.5 million dollars at each stage they advance to cover tournament preparation expenses. This means that all teams participating in the 2026 World Cup will receive at least 10.5 million dollars. It should be recalled that Argentina, the winner of the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar, earned 42 million dollars.
It should be noted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time, 48 teams will participate in the tournament. The final match will be held at MetLife Stadium in the state of New Jersey.
