Fire on AzNeft Offshore Platform Results in Fatality


ZABRAT, Azerbaijan – A fire on the Deep Offshore Platform #4 operated by AzNeft’s “28 May” Oil-Gas Production Enterprise resulted in the death of a 64-year-old man due to smoke inhalation on September 2, 2024.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the incident occurred around 22:00, with emergency services called to the scene in the Zabrat settlement of the Sabunchu district. Despite rapid response efforts, Islamov Rafig Isa, born in 1960 and an employee of the Specialized Oil-Mining Special Equipment Department #1 of AzNeft PU, was pronounced dead before medical assistance could be provided.



AzNeft Production Union reported that the fire was quickly contained and extinguished by fire-fighting ships, preventing further spread. The emergency teams’ prompt action ensured no additional injuries or environmental damage from the incident.
