TEHRAN — Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Russian ambassador in Tehran to express concerns over Moscow’s stance on the Zangazur corridor, emphasizing the importance of respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity for regional peace.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the discussion was led by the Iranian foreign minister’s assistant and director general of the Eurasia Directorate. The meeting addressed the current dynamics in the Caucasus, with the Iranian official underscoring Iran’s commitment to maintaining recognized international borders and opposing geopolitical changes in the region. The dialogue also highlighted the need for considering the legitimate interests of all regional countries to foster cooperation and stability.

The talks come in the wake of comments by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who recently criticized Armenian leadership for hindering the implementation of agreements concerning the Syunik region, vital for establishing a corridor through the Zangezur area. The meeting also touched on upcoming diplomatic engagements, including the 3+3 consultative mechanism and a tripartite meeting involving Iranian, Russian, and Azerbaijani ministers, aimed at bolstering regional peace and economic initiatives.
