Baku: The first day of the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States concluded in Baku on June 22. On the sidelines of this significant event, the 5th Meeting of the Committee on Muslim Communities and Minorities was convened.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Abdrrahim Dusak, a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, addressed the committee meeting. He emphasized the committee's ongoing efforts to amplify the voices of Muslim communities on international platforms, highlight rights violations, and engage in solution-oriented parliamentary diplomacy. Dusak presented the committee's report, which aimed to evaluate the conditions of Muslim communities and minorities residing in non-OIC Parliamentary Union member states. The report also focused on identifying challenges, recording examples of good practices, and fostering international solidarity.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the protection of rights for Muslim communities, security for religious and ethnic minorities, social integration, and the creation of inclusive societies. Participants also addressed the preservation of cultural and religious heritage in liberated territories and examined cases of discrimination against Muslim communities.
The committee further explored the enhancement of multiculturalism, interfaith dialogue, and mutual understanding within the OIC and beyond. There was a focus on increasing youth and women's participation in public life and promoting social stability and coexistence.
