First Salary in Russia Paid in Digital Rubles

Moscow: The Russian Treasury has successfully processed the first salary payment in digital rubles to an individual holding a state position in the Russian Federation, marking a significant development in the country’s financial system.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this milestone event was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Finance, although the specific identity of the recipient was not revealed. The initiative is part of an experimental program aimed at integrating digital rubles into the budgetary process, conducted in collaboration with the Russian Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Russia.

The Ministry’s statement further highlighted that transactions involving digital ruble accounts are slated to commence from January 1, 2026. During this period, payments in digital rubles will be made exclusively upon the request of the recipients, ensuring a flexible transition to the new system.
