TBILISI: By noon, a total of 776,726 voters had cast their ballots in Georgia’s parliamentary elections, accounting for 22.22 percent of the eligible voting population, according to Trend reports via Georgia’s Central Election Commission.

According to Trend News Agency, the region with the highest voter turnout was Racha-Lechkhumi, where 31.15 percent of registered voters participated. Conversely, Adjara recorded the lowest turnout at 19.83 percent. Other regions reported varying turnout rates: Tbilisi at 23.18 percent, Kakheti at 23.89 percent, Mtskheta-Mtianeti at 23.53 percent, Kvemo Kartli at 21.86 percent, Samtskhe-Javakheti at 22.04 percent, Imereti at 22.01 percent, and Guria at 21.13 percent.

Polling stations across Georgia opened at 8:00 a.m. and will remain operational until 8:00 p.m. The total number of eligible voters is 3,508,294, which includes 95,910 Georgians residing abroad. For the current legislative elections, 3,111 voting stations have been established, with a record 67 of these located
abroad in 53 cities across 42 countries.

The election process is being monitored by 102 local and 64 international organizations to ensure transparency. This year, members of parliament will be elected solely through a proportional system based on party lists. To secure seats in the parliament, political parties must surpass a five percent vote threshold.

Eighteen parties are participating in the elections, with five forming coalitions. Notably, this election marks the introduction of an electronic voting system, expected to enable the counting of more than 90 percent of the ballots and the publication of results within an hour after polls close.
