Georgian Dream Party Secures Lead in Parliamentary Election with 53% of Vote


TBILISI: The Georgian Dream Party has taken a commanding lead in Georgia’s parliamentary election, securing 53.06% of the vote, according to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission. This election is notable for being the first conducted under the country’s fully proportional system, determining all 150 parliamentary seats in a single round.

According to Trend News Agency, Georgian Dream is followed by the Coalition for Change, garnering 11.7% of the vote. Unity – National Movement received 9.94%, while Strong Georgia – Lelo attained 8.99%, and Gakharia for Georgia secured 8.22%. In total, four opposition parties have collectively captured 38.22% of the vote.

This election represents a significant shift in Georgia’s electoral process, with 18 parties and coalitions competing for representation under the new system. A party must achieve at least 5% of the vote to gain seats in the parliament.
