Uzbekistan’s Parliamentary Election Sees Active Voter Participation, Observers Report


TASHKENT: Voting in Uzbekistan’s parliamentary election was marked by active participation from both young and older citizens, according to observers at various polling stations, Trend reports. The election, which took place on October 27, attracted voters eager to be part of the democratic process, with no violations reported during the voting period.

According to Trend News Agency, Kamolzhon Vakhidov, a member of the election commission at polling station No. 111, located at the Tashkent branch of the Moscow State University, noted the enthusiastic turnout. Vakhidov remarked that voters from different generations were keen to engage in the electoral process. At polling station No. 108, situated at the Tashkent Institute of Pharmacy, chairman Zukhriddin Mamatkulov observed that 60% of the voters were students who participated with enthusiasm and awareness.

The election aimed to fill seats in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local councils of people’s deputies. Five political parties vied for
the positions: the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish,” Ecological Party, People’s Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party “Adolat.”

This year’s election was conducted under a mixed electoral system, reflecting updates to the Constitution and national electoral legislation. The system allows for 75 members of the Legislative Chamber to be elected through single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian electoral system, while another 75 members are elected through proportional representation via party lists.

The election process was also notable for its complete digitalization through the “E-Saylov” information system. More than 850 foreign and international observers, including representatives from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), were present to monitor the proceedings.
