German Chancellor Commits to Continued Support for Ukraine Amidst Ongoing Conflict

Baku: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has reaffirmed Germany's unwavering support for Ukraine, citing the unyielding stance of the Russian President as the primary obstacle to peace.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, during a joint press conference with President Ilham Aliyev, Merz expressed his frustration, stating, "I have had to say this repeatedly over the past 14 months, unfortunately." He emphasized that the resolution of the conflict is entirely dependent on the actions and decisions of the Russian government and its leader. Merz highlighted that the initiation of negotiations and potential peace talks rest solely on the Russian President's willingness, which he continues to withhold.

Merz further affirmed Germany's commitment to Ukraine, stating that as long as the Russian President maintains his current position, Germany will persist in its support. He emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts with European partners to ensure a unified approach. Merz extended his gratitude to President Aliyev for his understanding and assessment of the war, aligning with Merz's views on the conflict's nature, causes, and potential outcomes.
