MUNICH: The 21st Conference on Gas Infrastructure in Europe (GIE) is set to take place in Munich on October 17-18, focusing on crucial topics such as energy transition and sustainable solutions, as reported by Trend News Agency.

According to Trend News Agency, these annual conferences bring together leading European companies active in the gas market and operators of gas infrastructure. The event will see significant participation from industry leaders including Teodora Georgieva, the executive director and representative of the Board of Directors of ICGB, the company-operator of the interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB). The conference aims to address pressing issues in the gas sector, particularly the transition towards sustainable energy practices.

The IGB, which currently has a throughput capacity of 3 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas per year, is under expansion to increase its capacity to 5 bcm annually. This enhancement will accommodate not just Azerbaijani gas but also supplies from the new Greek Al
exandroupolis LNG terminal and other sources. It’s noteworthy that Europe began receiving Azerbaijani gas in December 2020 through the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which was linked to the IGB in 2022. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to diversify and secure Europe’s energy supplies, with expectations to exceed 12 bcm of gas from Azerbaijan by 2024.
