CAIRO — A delegation from the Islamic World Heritage Committee of ICESCO explored significant cultural sites in Aghdam, Azerbaijan, as part of their activities surrounding the 12th meeting in Shusha.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the visit included prominent figures such as Dr. Mohamed Zine El Abidine, former Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs and current Head of Culture and Communication at ICESCO, along with Webber Ndoro, Director of the Islamic World Heritage Center at ICESCO, and Mohammed Al-Aidarous, Chairman of the Islamic World Heritage Committee. The delegation, which also featured Iroda Dadashconova, Director of the Research Institute of Cultural Studies and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, toured the reconstructed Imarat Complex and the Aghdam Juma Mosque. They were briefed on the history and the restoration efforts of these sites, including the graves of notable historical figures like Panahali Khan and Ibrahimkhalil Khan.

The visitors reviewed the damages incurred during the occupation and the ongoing restoration projects, which are being conducted with assistance from Italian experts. The restored sites, which showcased extensive damages during the conflict, now serve as examples of Azerbaijan’s commitment to preserving and restoring Islamic heritage.

The officials expressed their appreciation for Azerbaijan's hospitality and its efforts in heritage conservation, particularly highlighting the state’s role in setting restoration standards within the Islamic world.
