ICMP Plans Azerbaijan-Armenia Database Modeled on Former Yugoslavia

Baku: "The database to be established between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be of crucial importance for cooperation," Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), Kathryne Bomberger, stated during the international conference titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons." This conference was held within the framework of cooperation with the ICMP.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Bomberger highlighted that this initiative will not only enhance cooperation between state institutions and improve communication between the Azerbaijani government and the families of missing persons but will also facilitate the information exchange between Azerbaijan and Armenia, serving as a mechanism contributing to peace.

Bomberger elaborated on the model's success in the context of the former Yugoslavia, where, despite many years since the conflict, the governments have created a joint working group on missing persons. They have developed a shared database covering unresolved cases and continue to exchange information through it.

"We hope the same results will be achieved through this database as well. At first glance, this topic may not seem particularly interesting, but a database is one of the vital tools for ensuring cooperation and building peace," Bomberger emphasized.
