Baku: An Indigenous Caucus has been established for the first time within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku. Florencia Soto Nino-Martinez, co-chair of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Working Group on Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, announced this development during a roundtable titled 'Adequate Housing for Indigenous Peoples.'

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Nino-Martinez highlighted the significance of this inaugural Indigenous Caucus at the World Urban Forum. She emphasized that although the representation might be limited in number, the impact and potential of the Indigenous Caucus are expected to expand significantly over time. "We may be few in number here, but we are like seeds - we will grow and flourish," she stated, underlining the long-term vision and influence anticipated from the Indigenous Caucus's establishment.

The creation of the Indigenous Caucus marks a significant milestone in the history of the World Urban Forum, signaling a commitment to incorporating indigenous perspectives and addressing the unique challenges faced by indigenous communities in urban settings.
