International Prosecutors Convene in Baku for Annual Conference


BAKU — The 29th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) commenced on Monday at the Baku Congress Center, featuring an array of high-profile legal discussions and strategic sessions aimed at enhancing global judicial cooperation.



According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the conference opened with an address from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, read by Kamran Aliyev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event attracted approximately 470 participants from 95 countries, including prosecutors and other senior legal officials. Juan Bautista Mahiques, President of the IAP and Attorney General of the Public Prosecution Service of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, also addressed the gathering.



The four-day event, themed ‘Role of the Prosecutor in Upholding the Rule of Law’, is set to cover critical topics such as the use of digital evidence and AI, prosecution of domestic and gender-based violence, economic crime, and asset recovery. The conference will also include plenary sessions, working group meetings, and both bilateral and multilateral discussions, supplemented by social activities to promote networking among the international legal community.



Key decisions on the IAP’s strategy and future initiatives are anticipated as the conference progresses, highlighting its role in shaping prosecutorial practices worldwide.
