According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event held in Baku not only showcases Azerbaijan’s readiness to host significant global conferences but also underlines its position in international legal reforms and climate action initiatives. As highlighted in the opening remarks, Azerbaijan is set to host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), featuring an associated event focused on law enforcement’s role in climate action.
The country’s recent history and ongoing recovery from conflicts, notably with Armenia, were addressed. Azerbaijani officials reported the severe impacts of occupation, including ethnic cleansing, destruction of cities, towns, and cultural sites, and the unresolved issue of missing persons and mass graves attributed to Armenian forces.
