Abu dhabi: An Israeli researcher of Ecuadorian origin, Sebasti¡n Cordero-Velastegu­, has revealed insights gained from the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), emphasizing the underestimated number of people living in slums. Cordero-Velastegu­'s observations were shared during his participation in the event, as reported by AZERTAC.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Cordero-Velastegu­ stated, "WUF13 taught me that there are many more people living in informal settlements (slums) than we think." He highlighted the ongoing demographic shifts, where rural populations are decreasing while urban areas witness rapid growth. Cordero-Velastegu­ stressed the importance of acknowledging these trends, noting that there is a pressing need to address demographic pressures anticipated in the near future.
