Baku: Kapital Bank, the country's first bank, is taking a proactive new step in the fight against cyber fraud. The bank has introduced a crucial new feature to its Birbank mobile app, empowering customers to instantly verify whether a call is truly from the bank.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, if you get a call from someone claiming to be a Kapital Bank or Birbank employee-whether they're offering a new product, warning you about an issue with your card, or claiming there's a fraudulent transaction on your account-you can now follow these simple steps to verify the caller's identity. Customers are advised to ask for a notification, which the caller should send to the Birbank mobile app. This notification can only be sent through the official Birbank app. Upon receiving a call, customers should open the Birbank app on their phone to verify the call.
If the caller is a real bank employee, a confirmation message will appear in the app stating: 'Dear Birbank customer, we confirm that the person offering you a bank product is an employee of our bank. Thank you for your trust.' If no such notification is received, customers are advised to hang up immediately.
It's vital to remain cautious, as no legitimate bank employee will ever contact you from a foreign number or a social media account, nor will they ask for your card's expiration date, the 3-digit CVV code on the back, or the 4-digit security code (OTP) sent to your phone. If something seems amiss, it's crucial to report it immediately to the bank's hotline. By reporting suspicious calls, messages, or social media accounts, customers are not only protecting themselves but also helping to curb cybercriminal activities.
Kapital Bank is part of PASHA Holding and has the largest service network in Azerbaijan, with 121 branches and 52 departments across the country. For more detailed information about the bank's products and services, customers can visit the bank's website, contact the 196 Call Centre, or explore the bank's various social network pages.
