Baku: Kyrgyzstan is making significant strides towards diversifying its energy sources by increasing investments in solar and wind energy, as stated by Kyrgyzstan's Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev. Speaking at the ministerial-level plenary session of the 31st Baku Energy Forum, Ibraev highlighted the country's heavy reliance on hydropower, which currently accounts for 90% of its electricity generation.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Minister Ibraev elaborated on Kyrgyzstan's collaboration with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan within the unified energy system of Central Asia. This partnership plays a crucial role in mitigating electricity shortages through regional support. The minister emphasized ongoing modernization efforts for hydroelectric power plants that have been operational for more than six decades, alongside the development of solar and wind energy projects.
Ibraev revealed that Kyrgyzstan is actively pursuing reforms in the energy sector to boost green energy production and enhance the resilience of its energy supply. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to secure a sustainable and reliable energy future for the nation.
