Baku: The procedure for extending the duration of paid maternity leave related to pregnancy and childbirth has been determined, APA reports. This is reflected in the amendments to the Labor Code, the implementation of which was approved by a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the law specifies that the duration of the pre-birth portion of maternity leave will be extended on a paid basis by the number of days that pass between the expected date of birth and the actual date of the child's birth. In such cases, the post-birth portion of the leave will not be reduced.

The Labor Code grants working women 126 calendar days of paid leave for pregnancy and the post-childbirth period, divided into 70 days before childbirth and 56 days after childbirth. In instances of complicated childbirth or the birth of two or more children, post-childbirth leave extends to 70 calendar days.

Women employed in agricultural production are entitled to maternity leave under different conditions. For normal childbirth, they receive 140 calendar days (70 days before and 70 days after childbirth). In the case of complicated childbirth, they are granted 156 days (70 days before and 86 days after childbirth). For the birth of two or more children, the leave is extended to 180 days (70 days before and 110 days after childbirth).
