Minsk: A delegation led by Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov visited the Victory Monument in Minsk as part of the 16th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Belarus Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the visit also included stops at the Azerbaijan Trade House and the 'Pershi Regional Trade Center' to explore local Belarusian products.
Samir Sharifov highlighted the significance of the Azerbaijan Trade House in promoting Azerbaijani products in Belarus and enhancing export opportunities. At the 'Pershi' trade center, he stressed the importance of sharing experiences to promote local production and develop trade infrastructure.
Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin welcomed the Azerbaijani delegation at the Council of Ministers, emphasizing the strategic importance of industrial cooperation and joint projects in strengthening Azerbaijan-Belarus economic ties. He highlighted potential collaborations, especially in mechanical engineering and municipal equipment.
The intergovernmental meeting was chaired by Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Belarus's Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Petkevich. Petkevich underscored the enduring friendship and mutual trust between the two nations, identifying industrial and agricultural cooperation as key areas for development.
Samir Sharifov noted that despite global economic challenges, trade relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus remain strong, with the Azerbaijan Trade House playing a crucial role in advancing bilateral trade. The meeting celebrated the industrial cooperation, particularly the Ganja Automobile Plant's success in manufacturing in collaboration with Belarusian enterprises.
Discussions also focused on joint projects in Azerbaijan's liberated territories, with participants praising the agro-town project in Aghdam district's Gizil Kangarli village. Transport and logistics were identified as major growth areas, with transit transportation volumes increasing significantly.
The meeting concluded with the signing of several agreements, including the final Protocol of the 16th meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on statistical cooperation, a Cooperation Program in Physical Education and Sports for 2026-2030, a Healthcare Cooperation Roadmap for 2026-2027, and an agreement on assembling fire-fighting equipment.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding economic ties. They agreed to hold the 17th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Belarus Intergovernmental Commission in 2027 in Baku. Following the meeting, an Azerbaijan-Belarus business forum was held with participation from government representatives and businessmen from both countries.
