Baku: The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, witnessed a significant development in regional transportation infrastructure. In a formal event held in Baku, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Rashad Nabiyev, and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, signed the Protocol of the 41st meeting of the Coordination Council. This meeting focused on the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction of the railway section stretching from Marabda to the Turkish border at Kartsakhi, marking the completion of the modernization works for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the document signed at the event confirms the completion and official acceptance of the modernization efforts undertaken for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project. This project is a critical component of the transportation network, aiming to enhance connectivity between the participating countries.
It was highlighted that Azerbaijan Railways CJSC conducted significant modernization work in 2024 on a 184-kilometer section of the railway line, which traverses Georgian territory. The completion of these works is expected to bolster the capabilities of the BTK railway, facilitating improved transportation and economic interaction between the regions it connects.
