Moscow: An international conference focusing on the restoration of degraded landscapes in Turkmenistan’s transboundary areas was held recently, attracting scientists and environmental experts from various countries. The event, titled “Land Reclamation and Water Management – the Basis of Food and Environmental Security,” highlighted the pressing issues and innovative solutions in water resource management and land rehabilitation.

According to Trend News Agency, the conference featured presentations from members of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the National Institute of Deserts, Flora, and Fauna of Turkmenistan, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection. These presentations centered on the development of reclamation systems and the use of water resources in sustaining environmental health.

The discussions at the conference also covered a range of topics including the implementation of biosphere-based management strategies to improve land reclamation comprehensively. There was a special emphasis
on creating educational and research plots to test new irrigation techniques. Moreover, the conference addressed the integration of hydraulic technologies into agricultural machinery and the development of feed production systems under flood irrigation conditions.

Participants from multiple countries contributed their insights and proposed initiatives aimed at advancing water management practices and promoting the sustainability of ecosystems. This collaborative international effort underscores the global importance of addressing environmental degradation and exploring sustainable solutions.
