Baku: The recent visit of representatives from the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan to the regions of Karabakh and East Zangezur has incited a notable reaction within Armenia, described by Azerbaijani Member of Parliament Asim Mollazade as interference in Azerbaijan's internal affairs.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mollazade criticized the Armenian societal response to the diplomatic visit, emphasizing that Karabakh is the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan. He expressed concern that the negative reaction from Armenia contradicts its recognition of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Mollazade underscored that the visit by foreign diplomats within Azerbaijan's borders should not be met with objection, as it reaffirms international support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.

The controversy extends to discussions on historical and cultural heritage, with Armenia claiming that Azerbaijani authorities are "Albanizing" monuments of alleged Armenian heritage, such as the Gandzasar and Khudavang sites. Mollazade dismissed these claims, labeling them as part of a racist narrative that denies the existence of Azerbaijani heritage within Armenia. He argued that all historical and cultural monuments in Azerbaijan belong to its people and are protected by the state.

Mollazade also commented on the presence of revanchist forces in Armenia, noting that they are not solely linked to opposition groups but also appear to be supported by the Armenian authorities. He suggested that these forces are engaged in a coordinated campaign to undermine Azerbaijan's sovereignty and the peace process. He highlighted that recent statements from Armenian officials, including Ruben Rubinyan, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, further exemplify this interference in Azerbaijan's internal matters.

The MP criticized Armenia's approach to peace, arguing that actions such as observing a minute of silence for servicemen killed in border clashes in 2022 serve to fuel revanchist sentiments. He warned that Armenia's lack of sincerity and orchestrated campaigns could undermine the peace process and pose a threat to long-term regional stability.

Finally, Mollazade called on Armenia to abandon revanchist tendencies and embrace peace and regional cooperation to secure a better future for both countries. He emphasized that the historical reality of Azerbaijan's restored territorial integrity cannot be changed and urged Armenia to focus on development and cooperation rather than historical distortions.
