Mukhtar Babayev: The Number of Droughts and Extremely Hot Days Has Increased Sixfold

Baku: Holding the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Azerbaijan is another example of the country's contribution to international organization, Azerbaijan's Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev said during the event titled 'Early Warnings and Sustainable Cities' held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Babayev emphasized the significant challenges posed by climate change amidst various geopolitical issues facing the world today. Highlighting data from the World Meteorological Organization, he stated that the planet is currently experiencing its hottest days on record, with cities being particularly vulnerable to these climatic shifts. These changes are impacting millions globally, underscoring the necessity for proactive measures. Babayev noted that a 24-hour early warning system could mitigate 30 percent of the adverse effects of climate change.

He also pointed out the alarming increase in the frequency of droughts and extremely hot days, which have surged sixfold. This stark rise calls for urgent integration of climate considerations into urban planning to safeguard communities and enhance resilience against future climate-related events.
