New National Park Announced for Kalbajar Region

Kalbajar: A new National Park will be created in Kalbajar, APA reports. This initiative was highlighted in the 'Report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2025,' which was presented during today's session of the Milli Majlis.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, field research was conducted from May 5-7, 2025, in the Kalbajar district by the Institute of Zoology of the Ministry of Science and Education and the Azerbaijan Representative Office of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The research aimed to explore the potential for establishing new specially protected natural areas and to study the populations of the Persian leopard (Panthera pardus) and the Bezoar goat (Capra aegagrus). These species are rare and endangered and are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The study focused on the natural landscapes of the Kalbajar district.

Additionally, monitoring activities took place on September 23-24 in the territories of the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, particularly in the Girkhgiz mountains and Meydan plain, to support the creation of the new National Park in Kalbajar. Concurrently, the map of the Arazboyu State Nature Reserve was prepared, submitted, and received approval following the relevant procedures.
