Baku: In Azerbaijan, the railway system witnessed a significant increase in passenger transportation in the first nine months of 2025, with a 19.5% rise compared to the same period in 2024. This growth highlights a positive shift in the usage of rail transport for passengers across the country.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Statistical Committee’s monthly report revealed that from January to September 2025, approximately 7,156.9 thousand passengers utilized the railway services. While passenger numbers saw an uptick, cargo transportation experienced a decline. During the same period, 12.5 million tons of cargo were transported, marking a 10.7% decrease from the previous year.
This data underscores a notable trend in Azerbaijan’s transportation sector, suggesting a growing preference for rail travel among passengers despite the downturn in cargo transport. The findings from the State Statistical Committee provide crucial insights into the dynamics of the country’s railway usage.
