Baku: In line with the relevant instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, efforts to improve pedestrian and public transport infrastructure in the capital continue, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) said, APA-Economics reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, within the framework of the State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025-2030, a large-scale project aimed at ensuring the convenience of pedestrians, public transport users, and micromobility users on Tabriz Street is being launched. Analyses have identified several deficiencies hindering pedestrian movement on Tabriz Street, including narrow sidewalks and the absence of signalized pedestrian crossings.
From the perspective of traffic management, conflicts between turning and transit traffic flows reduce the street's capacity, affecting the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. Additionally, there is no infrastructure for micromobility vehicles on the street. Public transport users face difficulties due to narrow sidewalks near bus stops, poor infrastructure, and non-optimal stop locations.
To address these issues, the Transport Coordination Council has decided to improve pedestrian and public transport infrastructure on Tabriz Street. A small bus interchange hub will be established around the Nariman Narimanov metro station, accounting for pedestrian and transport flows. New pedestrian crossings will be organized, creating a continuous pedestrian environment.
Measures will also improve pedestrian movement conditions by expanding sidewalks and ensuring efficient management of pedestrian flows in the boulevard-style sidewalk sections. Near the Baku Congress Center, the area's attractiveness will be enhanced by creating safe pedestrian crossings, a tree buffer zone, and parking spaces.
The planned works aim to improve pedestrian safety and comfort on Tabriz Street, enhance access to public transport, and develop the street space functionally, aligning with modern urban mobility principles.
