President: Africa Will Not Remain an Agriculture-Based Continent After 25 Years

Abu dhabi: Africa will not remain an agriculture-based continent as it is today after 25 years, Jeffrey Sachs, President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), said at the panel titled 'Global Housing Crisis - What's the Plan?' held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Jeffrey Sachs highlighted the differing housing problems and urbanization dynamics across various regions of the world. He noted that while the urban population in countries such as Chile will remain stable over the next 25 years, the urban population in Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to more than double.

The expert pointed out that this significant growth will lead to new challenges regarding urban space, land use, design, construction, and infrastructure. He explained that the rapid migration of Africa's population to urban areas is an inevitable trend due to the mechanization of agriculture and the exodus of young people from rural regions.

Jeffrey Sachs emphasized the critical issue is not the inevitability of urbanization but whether sufficient jobs and an economic foundation can be established to support this growth. He also mentioned that although challenges like adaptation to climate change, digitalization, electric transport, and inequality are common to all cities, each region requires unique solutions based on its demographic and economic context.
