Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has criticized the decision by the Biden administration to halt the waiver of Section 907, describing the move as ungrateful and ingrateful. In a recent interview with local television channels, President Aliyev discussed the history and implications of the waiver, which had been in place since the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev noted that the waiver of Section 907 was a hard-fought achievement for Azerbaijan, only realized after significant diplomatic efforts. The waiver allowed Azerbaijan to receive U.S. assistance without the restrictions imposed by Section 907, which originally limited aid due to the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. The waiver continued to be renewed annually until 2024, aiding in Azerbaijan's development.

President Aliyev emphasized that the Biden administration's decision to halt the waiver came after the conclusion of the U.S. mission in Afghanistan. He highlighted that Azerbaijan's strategic importance seemed to diminish in the eyes of the U.S. once their military objectives in the region were accomplished. Despite the reinstatement of the amendment, President Aliyev affirmed that this decision did not affect Azerbaijan's economic progress. However, he reiterated that it exposed what he perceives as the ungraciousness of the current U.S. administration under President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
