Baku: President Ilham Aliyev has declared May as a month of celebration for Azerbaijan, marking both Independence Day and the return of Lachin district to national control. Speaking to residents of Beylik, Lachin district, President Aliyev emphasized the significance of May in Azerbaijan’s history, noting that it was once a tragic period due to the occupation of Lachin. The district was occupied in May, ten days after the fall of Shusha, which led to a series of setbacks in the war and the establishment of the Lachin corridor connecting the Nagorno-Karabakh region with Armenia.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev criticized the actions of the Popular Front-Musavat tandem during that period, accusing them of treason and contributing to the loss of Azerbaijani territories. He described their ascent to power as a disaster for the country, highlighting their role in the occupation as a severe betrayal. However, he also noted that these events are now part of history, with Azerbaijan having restored its sovereignty across its territories. President Aliyev urged the nation to view May as a time of celebration and to move forward from the past hardships, focusing on the unity and sovereignty that Azerbaijan enjoys today.
