President Ilham Aliyev Acknowledges Donald Trump’s Commemorative Gesture

Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump, APA reports. The acknowledgment came after President Trump sent a commemorative gift to President Aliyev, which included a memorandum regarding the extension of the suspension of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, along with a personal note.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev shared his thanks through a post on his social media accounts. He expressed sincere gratitude for the commemorative gift and the kind words from President Trump. In his message, he emphasized the importance of the gesture and expressed his appreciation for the thoughtful action.

In August of the previous year, President Trump had signed an order to temporarily suspend Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act. This section, adopted in 1992, restricts U.S. government assistance to Azerbaijan. Recently, U.S. House of Representatives member Anna Paulina Luna introduced a bill aimed at the complete repeal of Section 907.

Official statements from Baku indicate a hopeful outlook for the development of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations. The Azerbaijani government emphasizes the importance of practical steps from the U.S. toward the repeal of the amendment, considering Azerbaijan's increasing role in the region.
