President Ilham Aliyev Asserts Absence of Russian Soldiers in Azerbaijan

Baku: President Ilham Aliyev has stated that there are no Russian soldiers on Azerbaijani soil. In an interview with Al Arabiya TV channel, Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan's distinct military posture compared to neighboring Armenia, where Russian military influence is more pronounced.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted the presence of a Russian military base in Armenia, which hosts several thousand Russian troops. Additionally, he noted that Russian border security personnel are responsible for safeguarding Armenia's borders with Iran and Turkiye, underscoring the close military ties between Russia and Armenia.

President Aliyev expressed uncertainty regarding the potential consequences of this military alignment for Armenia, stating, "What may happen in Armenia I don't know, but I don't want to think about this negative scenario." His remarks reflect Azerbaijan's independent stance concerning foreign military presence within its borders.
