Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev recently received the credentials of Elchin Gasimov, the newly appointed Ambassador of Slovakia to Azerbaijan. The ambassador's presentation of credentials was followed by a conversation with President Aliyev, highlighting the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Slovakia.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized the significance of appointing a diplomat of Azerbaijani descent as Slovakia's ambassador, viewing it as a sign of respect and trust from Slovakia. He recalled the visit of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to Azerbaijan in 2024 as a testament to the strong bilateral ties.

The discussions during the meeting underscored the mutual understanding and support between the two countries, particularly in the energy sector. Slovakia's role as an EU member state and its support for Azerbaijan-European Union relations were acknowledged. Furthermore, Slovakia's position as NATO's contact point embassy in Azerbaijan was noted, highlighting its contribution to Azerbaijan-NATO relations.

President Aliyev also addressed the importance of the documents signed in Washington on August 8, which were supported by the U.S. President to advance the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He described these agreements as historic, paving the way for lasting regional peace.

Ambassador Gasimov affirmed the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Slovakia and conveyed greetings from Slovakia's President and Prime Minister. He reiterated the invitation for President Aliyev to visit Slovakia, which President Aliyev accepted with gratitude.

The meeting also covered cooperation areas in energy, agriculture, and the involvement of Slovak companies in restoration projects in Karabakh. Ambassador Gasimov congratulated President Aliyev on the progress in normalizing Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
