Astana: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has advocated for an enhancement in regional cooperation among Central Asian countries and called for necessary reforms in the United Nations. Speaking at the Astana Think Tank Forum, President Tokayev highlighted the evolving geopolitical dynamics and the strategic importance of Central Asia on the global stage.

According to Trend News Agency, President Tokayev addressed various topics during his speech at the forum, responding to a question from Lars-Hendrik Röller, Chair of the Berlin Global Dialogue. He stressed Kazakhstan’s commitment to regional policies and cooperation with neighboring countries in Central Asia. “We are absolutely committed to a regional policy and close cooperation with all our neighboring countries in Central Asia. The broader our cooperation, the better it is for the interests of Kazakhstan and other Central Asian nations,” Tokayev stated.

The president noted the active collaboration and diverse connections across Central Asia,
citing regular meetings between heads of state in the region which have been highly productive for strategic alignment. “Our political principles are aimed at strengthening the strategic balance. Central Asia is becoming increasingly prominent on the world map, and I hope my colleagues in the region agree with this perspective. We will do everything possible to enhance the potential of this crucial region,” he elaborated.

Additionally, President Tokayev addressed the need for reform within the United Nations, particularly emphasizing the role of regional and middle powers in the UN Security Council. He expressed concern over the current deadlock in the council and stressed the importance of supporting the UN as it approaches its 80th anniversary. “While the UN has its shortcomings, we have no alternative. Kazakhstan intends to continue collaborating with all countries that share this position to enhance the UN’s role,” he affirmed.
